Terms of use
The plain terms behind Aera.
These terms cover the Aera app for iPhone and Apple Watch and this website, both provided by Tech With Nikola Ltd.
At a glance
- The app is licensed to you under Apple's standard End User Licence Agreement. Nothing here replaces it.
- Aera is free to download. Training features need a monthly or annual membership, billed by Apple, with a one-week free trial for eligible new subscribers.
- Aera gives general running guidance, not medical advice. You decide whether a run is safe for you.
- Your training data stays on your devices and is covered by the privacy policy.
Your licence to use Aera
Aera is distributed through the App Store, and your use of the app is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the standard EULA). Tech With Nikola Ltd is the licensor. If anything in these terms conflicts with the standard EULA, the standard EULA applies to the app licence.
These terms add the details that are specific to Aera: how membership works, what the training guidance is and is not, and how this website may be used. By using Aera or this website you agree to them.
Membership and billing
- Free download, paid membership. Downloading Aera and completing onboarding is free. A monthly or annual auto-renewable subscription, called membership, unlocks training features: your plan, guided runs on iPhone and Apple Watch, time away and progress.
- Prices. The membership screen shows the price for your country before you subscribe. In the United Kingdom, membership is £6 a month or £39.99 a year. Apple sets prices in other countries.
- Free trial. Eligible new subscribers get one week free. The app tells you whether a trial is available for your Apple Account before you start. If you are not eligible, you will see a subscribe option with the billing terms instead.
- Renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when the trial ends or when you subscribe, and again at the start of each period. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Cancelling. Manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings: on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Apple handles purchases and refunds under its own terms. Request a refund through Apple's purchase support.
- Restoring. Membership belongs to the Apple Account that bought it. Use Restore purchases in the app on a new device or after reinstalling.
Running guidance and your safety
Aera builds training plans and pace targets from the goal, preferences and fitness information you provide, using a deterministic training model. The result is general running guidance for healthy adults who choose structured training. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment or a substitute for a doctor, physiotherapist or coach who knows you.
- Check with a suitably qualified professional before starting or changing a training programme, especially if you are pregnant, returning from injury or illness, or have a heart, respiratory, joint or other condition that affects exercise.
- Stop a workout if you feel unwell, dizzy, or have pain, and seek appropriate advice before returning from injury.
- Pace targets, fitness estimates and race-time estimates are estimates based on the information you give. They are not guarantees of performance or results. Terrain, weather, fatigue and health all matter, and only you can judge how you feel on the day.
- You are responsible for your own safety while running, including choosing routes, watching for traffic and other people, dressing for the conditions and following local rules. Keep your attention on your surroundings rather than on the screen.
Apple Health, Watch and devices
Apple Health, location and Apple Watch features depend on the permissions you grant and on your hardware, operating-system version and settings. GPS distance and pace, heart rate from Apple Watch and imported workouts can be imprecise or unavailable. Aera is designed for iPhone with the current and previous major iOS versions; Apple Watch is optional.
Your data
Aera has no accounts. Your plan, runs, routes and settings are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and you can erase them from More → Erase all Aera data. How the app and this website handle information, including Apple Health, RevenueCat, optional Mixpanel analytics and this website's Google Analytics, is described in the privacy policy.
This website
runwithaera.com describes Aera and hosts support, privacy and terms pages. Its content, design and images are owned by Tech With Nikola Ltd or used with permission; you may link to the site and quote short extracts with attribution, but not copy or republish it otherwise. The site links to Apple and other third parties whose pages are governed by their own terms. The site is provided as is, and we may change or remove content at any time.
Changes and availability
We improve Aera over time. Features may be added, changed or removed, and some may require a newer version of iOS or watchOS. Aera is currently available for iPhone and Apple Watch; an Android version is planned but not yet available, and nothing here promises a release date. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Subject to that, Tech With Nikola Ltd is not liable for losses that were not caused by our breach of these terms, losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using Aera, or business losses, and our total liability for a membership is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim arose. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer law of your country.
